We are not sure about renting a car. Hi Karen! There are shuttles that run that route, but they are not exactly cheap. I would suggest checking out Interbus. The drive really is not bad. As far as things to do in La Fortuna, definitely go to the waterfall and check out some hot springs. Those are for sure the La Fortuna highlights. Costa Rica is expensive.
