Since I never made a dairy-free cake before I can only compare this cake to regular cakes and I am happy to say that the cake was very good.
No one who sampled the cake could tell it was a dairy-free cake. The only slight change I made was that I cooked it in a 9 inch round cake pan and it took a little longer to bake. The cake was still very moist and flavorful and I got a little more hight to the cake.

For my personal taste it needs a bit of frosting the sweetness will accentuate the chocolate perfectly. Love this!! Made it for my sons 3rd birthday and everyone loved it!!! I have to say, this is not my fav egg- and dairy-free cake. It is extremely dense and heavy, with a very course crumb, and while the flavour is edible, it's not great by any means. I have certainly had better. My friend who rarely gets cake due to egg and milk allergies said it was great, so maybe it's a matter of perspective, but I found a different recipe years ago online that I must say I preferred, but lost it and can't find it.

We are glad it suits many, but of course nothing suits everyone, right? Nowadays people want cakes without milk and eggs but they don't live up to our idea of what cake should taste like. If wheat is not an allergy, most white or wheat flours have worked for us. I often buy unbleached white by a name brand, and have never had trouble. If you have a rice flour you like, you could look up ways to sub it for white. I don't have much experience with it to make any helpful suggestions. I'm sorry.
